The smell of the salty ocean fills the air, the sun shines a little brighter, and the waves caress the shore whistling in ecstasy. Reggae music plays from every speaker and tempts your hips to never stop swaying. The pool is an oasis from the heat and the ocean is only a stone throw away. The bars are stocked and your cup is bottomless. From the beach volleyball courts, to the swim up bar, to the Boogie Woogie, every inch of the Grand Palladium Resort and Spa doubles as a dance floor – and as our new friend Stretch says, “the more drinks you have, the better the dancer you think you are.”
My best girl friend Emily and I ventured to Jamaica and found a paradise filled with amazing music, flavourful foods, boozy beverages, and the best people. Every moment of our trip was filled with laughter and dancing, whether it be getting our butts served to us in beach volleyball and thus losing (countless) bets, to attempting to bruk it down on the dance floor – the trip was filled with endless fun and memories I will never forget.
Over the course of our week long trip we ventured out on two excursions – one to Negril and one to Ocho Rios.
Negril’s Seven Mile Beach is breathtaking and wonderfully relaxing. The spectacular sunset that lights the sky over Rick’s Cafe is unparalleled and lives up to its reputation as one of the most beautiful. The jump off the Rick’s Cafe cliff had my heart racing as I took the leap over the edge and free fell into the welcoming blue water 35 feet below.
The climb to the top of Dunn’s River Falls in Ocho Rios is an adrenaline packed wet rollercoaster of fun. While we sailed along back to shore on the catamaran, we celebrated our climb with a massive dance party fuelled by beef patties, Red Stripe, and rum punch.
Every night we danced, every night we sang along to the reggae remixed versions of pop songs, and every night we gazed up at the stars and wished the trip could last just a lifetime longer.
Jamaica, you were oh so good to us. See you again soon.
